Q & A with Rashi Chowdhary

Q & A

Rashi Chowdhary is a leading nutritionist and inch loss expert with a 5 year degree course in nutrition and is also a certified diabetic educator.  She juggles between Dubai and Mumbai on client demands and also runs the immensely successful The Protein Bake Shop (PBS) outlets in both the cities.  PBS is India’s first grain free fitness bakery and she has most of the Bollywood stars literally eating out of her hands.
Rashi has a pretty straightforward mathematical formula when it comes to fitness –
Right nutrients + dietary supplements + water + exercise routine = great skin+ healthy hair + high energy levels

Here she breaks down her daily routine for us and the secret to her bouncy hair and porcelain perfect skin.

Tell us something about your morning routine when it comes to skin care?

Honestly, I have struggled with skin issues while growing up and used practically EVERY skin care product available on the market shelf. And NONE of them will work if you have a genuine hormonal issue or food sensitivity that makes your skin inflamed. So I have no faith in these commercial products. I only use Cetaphil cream to moisturize at night and in the morning. I keep off all inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy and refined sugar. Eggs cause my skin a bit of trouble so I avoid those as well. I try my best to drink at least a litre of water before I hit the clinic and my morning always starts with fat first which could be ghee or organic butter. To wash my face I again use Cetaphil or Avalon face wash, both of which are medicated.

What make up products do you use for a quick office look when you have less than 10 minutes to get ready?

I’m not big on makeup. I just do it because it looks more professional at work. So I take out 10 minutes to do make up anyway. It is usually a Cetaphil moisturizer followed by a BB cream from Mac or I use a foundation from Nars. Eye kohl is ALWAYS a Mac waterproof roll on and a shade of lipstick from Nars. And i occasionally use mascara from Lancôme.

What supplements do you take internally that translate to your glowing skin and bouncy hair?

My hair is wavy and to be honest, I’m still trying to love it!
I use to have a lot of hair fall when I was going through a really rough time personally, but when I started to focus more on myself and taking care of my food in terms of more protein and supplements, my hair fall stopped. Hair and nails are a sure sign of your internal nutrition and of course genetics too. 80 % is your food and habits, 20 % are your genes. Having fish and greens every night really helped me in this aspect . Adding L Glutathione to my list of supplements also helped me deal with the stress better and in turn helped my hair and skin health.

“Increase fat in your diet” is your motto. What changes has this brought about in you?

Fat makes hormones. Your sex hormones are steroid hormones and they need cholesterol to get synthesized. So eating good fat is one the most crucial things. Good fats also take care of your gut health. Your gut decides your overall health to a great extent. It also makes you happier because 80 % of your happy hormone, Serotonin is produced in your gut. So when you eat enough fat (I make sure I have anywhere between 50 -60 % a day) you will see how your mood gets a lot better. And let’s face it, when we are happier, we feel better and that will always reflect on your skin. Even if you’re having a bad hair day, if you’re genuinely hormonally happy, you won’t care so much about it. So for me, it’s always “inside out” and not the other way round.

How does your skin and hair routine differ when you move between Mumbai and Dubai?

My routine is so easy and clean, it’s easy to keep up no matter where I am. I just make sure I keep off flight food, because it really bloats us and throws us off balance. It has zero nutritional value and can do nothing good for my insides. So very rarely do I give into that kind of food.

Which beauty product can you absolutely not do without?
Cetaphil and the BB cream from Mac.

Tell us about your night care regime?

I just make sure, no matter how late it is, I get my make up off. And if I’m not too exhausted, will use the Cetaphil moisturizer. If I’m feeling like my skin is not feeling the best, I use Benzac Ac for few nights in a row.

What is the one terrible habit that people need to get rid off to ensure that they can ‘ Cage The Age’?

There is a lot you can do to slow the process of ageing!
• Add more good fat to your diet and specially make fat first, part of your morning ritual.
• Completely give up on refined sugar; it adds no value to your nutrition. Also, avoid sugar from fruit juices but fresh fruits are fine.
• Add antioxidant supplements like Vitamin C, L glutathione etc your diet.
• Take great care of your gut. If your gut is inflamed and irritated, your skin will never feel great. Keep a close check on your food sensitivities. For example, if you feel bloated and gassy after having milk or yoghurt, then you should avoid it completely and have it only occasionally if you are looking to live optimally.

Yes, I have bought L Glutathione on Amazon, it is available without prescription. There are only 2 things you should remember while taking this supplement, 1. you have to buy the reduced l glutathione version. 2. You have to take a vitamin supplement along with it, which is double dosage, so if your glutathione capsule is 500 mg, you have to take vitamin c of 1000 mg. but you don’t have to worry about it creating toxicity in your body, because both are water soluble and gets flushed out of the body.
      Hope the answer was helpful.
