Q & A with Naina Ruhail

Q & A

If one could describe Naina Ruhail in one word, it would be- ethereal.
The porcelain beauty from Delhi is a make up artist and stylist , certified from the London School of Make Up and London School of Styling respectively. And for those of you don’t Iive in the Insta world, she blogs under the catchy name @ispeakwhatyoulove where her stories and videos on travel, make up, styling and beauty are definitely drool worthy.
On Q & A, Naina gives us her A B C on how she manages to look picture perfect in every frame, her most coveted beauty products and her AM / pm routines.

1. What is your morning routine when it comes to skin care ?

A:  I wash my face with a Forest Essentials Delicate Facial Cleanser or the Kiehls Ultra Facial cleanser. Next I use my L’Occitane Skin Perfecting Toner followed by Kiehls Clear Corrective Dark Spot solution. I complete the regime with my Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream and Garnier Ambre Solaire Sensitive Advanced Sunblock.

2. Since you are the face of ispeakwhatyoulove – how much of prep goes into maintaining that alabaster skin?

A: Its all about treating your skin right. I use face masks once in a while like the ones from Sephora. And organic face scrubs once or twice a week to exfoliate. Apart from that, home made masks are what work best for me.

I don’t go for facials very often but when I do, its usually for detanning or to hydrate my skin.

3. Exercise is obviously an intrinsic part of your life, how has this translated to your image?

A: I feel its very important to include exercise in your daily routine. It helps remove the toxins from your body and makes your skin glow. Plus it keeps you fit.
My routine usually includes a mix of cardio and functional exercises with some amount of weight training.

4. As a make up artist, you are constantly bombarded by new products . Which new products in the last 6 months have been pathbreaking for you? And which ones were totally disappointing inspite of the hype?

A: Few of the products that I’m in love with right now are
MAC Prep & Prime Fix plus
Laura Mercier foundation powder
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
NARS Concealer
Kat Von D Ink Liner,
Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation
Colourpop Liquid Matte in the shade Bumble.

Products that didn’t cut the mark this year for me were:
MAC Roller Wheel liner
Too Faced Prism Highlighter
Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette

5. Which Indian beauty products do you swear by and are always in your kit?

A: Biotique Morning Nectar- it is a great moisturiser for all skin types and the Forest Essentials Velvet Silk Body Cream and face wash.

6. Do you take any internal supplements for hair or skin regularly ?

Yes I take iron, cod liver oil and flax seed capsules regularly which have definitely helped me.

7.  What is your general hair care routine ?

A: I oil my hair once or twice a week using coconut oil or almond oil and try and apply an egg white mask every two weeks.
I wash off the oil using an OGX Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner from the same range.

8.  How do you control your food and diet so that it doesn’t wreck your skin ?

A: I avoid the consumption of oily and fried foods on a daily basis. I eat a lot of nuts, fruits, salad and try to stay away from junk.
Its very important to keep yourself hydrated to maintain glowing skin. So I drink lots of water and fresh juices.

9. Please run us through your night care routine, how do you wind down for the day?

A: I remove my makeup with Garnier Skin Active Oil-infused Micellar Cleansing water.
Post that, I wash my face with my Forest Essentials or a  Kiehls cleanser. Then I apply the L’Occitane toner followed by my Benefit Total Moisture Facial Cream. And some good old Vaseline for my under eyes and lips before sleeping.

10.  What is your favourite DIY when it comes to skin and hair?

A: My all time favourite DIY’s are really simple !
Gram flour+Curd+lemon juice mask= glowing skin
Egg + coconut oil+ honey = bouncy hair
